The Rocky Point Lions Club and the Career Advisory Partnership (CAP) of Rocky Point, New York, jointly attended the 4th annual Long Island Works Coalition Luncheon on Monday, November 13th at the Melville Marriott Hotel in Huntington, New York, to honor those local businesses which have made an honorable commitment in developing the future work force on Long Island. Members of the Rocky Point Lions Club (New York) meet with members from Operation Veronica and the Knights of Columbus to spearhead and plan the Support the Troops Campaign 2007 in northeast Brookhaven Township in time for Memorial Day and beyond. Fourteen groups in the township have been invited to participate by sending care packages and appreciation cards to soldiers overseas. Local businesses will be asked to act as collection points for the packages and cards. All will be periodically collected and shipped to various destinations where the troops are deployed. Members of the press sit on the far left and Lions members are on the right.
The Rocky Point Lions Club participated in the annual September Arts and Music Festival sponsored by the Council of Dedicated Merchants at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai by selling items of various interest and providing information on membership and the Guide Dog Foundation, an organization closely linked to Lions Clubs International. At its January meeting the Rocky Point Lions Club awarded the Rocky Point High School Be A Nicer Neighbor Club a Certificate of Appreciation for their extensive work in gathering care packages and sports equipment at the high school in November for the Lions Support the Troops Campaign. The Rocky Point Lions Club launched a Christmas gift-giving event at Stony Brook Hospital for ill and infirmed children on December 1st. Lions went from room to room and distributed gifts with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the pediatric ward. On May 1st the Rocky Point Lions Club acknowledged the 52nd anniversary of its existence during its general membership meeting at the Sea Basin Restaurant in Rocky Point.
